Chineke! Orchestra’s star has already been sparkling in the firmament of international top orchestras for a few years now. This British orchestra stands out for its persistent focus on greater inclusion and diversity in the classical orchestra, and for the irresistible energy with which it brings music to life. With scintillating power, they shine a spotlight on composers of colour such as Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and William Dawson. Dawson based his Folk Symphony on age-old spirituals, religious songs from Afro-American communities, full of hope, sorrow and resilience. But this concert’s great attraction lies in the all-star cast that has been gathered to perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, with brother and sister Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason and the dynamic violinist Tai Murray. Supported by an unleashed Chineke! Orchestra, they add swing and groove to Beethoven’s famous notes.
